Summer high school intern research is a success
Margaret Shaw spent the summer in the Billinge group working on speeding up our PDF refinements without losing any accuracy in the refined parameters. As well as learning a lot and having plenty of fun, Margarets work showed us a way to get an almost 8x speed-up in our refinements with no loss of accuracy in the outcome. We are so excited about these developments that we are planning to write a paper for publication in a research journal. Not bad for a summer of work by a high-schooler! Margaret came from North Hunterdon High School high school in New Jersey as part of the High School Honors Science/Math/Engineering Program (HSHSP) run at Michigan State University.
